Black Cat - Good Luck or Bad Luck?

While I was walking my way to our house, a black cat was following me. At first I didn't know why I was getting weird looks from our neighbors (two old maids) and I kept thinking to myself what was going on when I heard a "meow". I looked behind me and saw a small black cat. The cat just left right after I stepped in our house. Then I remember there is a superstition that when a black cat crossed your path, it will bring you bad luck. I think a folklore about black cats varies from culture to culture, right? I don't really believe black cats bring bad luck. Also, I don't think it will give me bad luck since it was only following right behind me?
