My Thoughts on Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

I just watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince today. I was supposed to watch the movie on Saturday but BF won't allow me, he wanted me to study for my Prelim exams. And now that my exams are done, I watched it with my friends. So, I'd like to share my thoughts about the movie. If you haven't seen it, then this is a spoiler for you.
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
OK.. the title Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is kind of misleading. Do you even remember who the Half-Blood Prince was? It's the fact that he only got few line in the whole film. I'm referring to the little boy Tom Riddler, not Snape (yet). They kind of did a poor job from the book of potions that Harry found, up to the events where Snape said he's the Half-Blood Prince. I mean, Snape just said, "by the way Harry, I'm the Half-Blood Prince." Then nothing else of that or the book of potions was ever mentioned again. It left me with a lot of questions. Also, why did the movie focus so little on Snape if he was the Half-Blood Prince?

This leads me to my next disappointment. The movie has not enough of anything but too much of the same thing. It has more humor in it - little jokes and expressions. It made me laugh when Ron got himself into an awkward situation. I felt like humor was too much, when they should not let it up more. A little bit of humor is OK, but too much of it is way bad. I was hoping to see more serious scenes with fighting, wand battles and more. They should have added something more exciting in the movie aside from humor. To my knowledge, they took out a lot of stuff from the book but at least they should have put SOMETHING in to the movie. It just wasn't enough, for me. Like I said, not enough of everything but too much of the same thing. They took a lot out from the book but then forgot to put everything back in place of what they took.

I never miss any Harry Potter film because I know it's a great movie from a great book. Not to mention all the hype that this movie was getting. So they say, they wanted the film to be on it's "darkest" of the six. HUH? Errr...that was supposed to be "dark?". Well in my personal opinion, The Order of the Phoenix was the darkest.

There were only a few scenes that I thought were scary. Oh yeah, PG for younger audiences, I understand that (even though The Order of the Phoenix was rated PG 13, and for sure every kid in the world still saw it), but I was expecting for frightening scenes. There was only one part of the movie that made me scream. It was when Harry was getting water for Dumbledore, and some creatures grabbed Harry's hand.

So, what happened to the dramatic death of Dumbledore? Need I say more? It was dreadfully done. I almost forgot he died. Well, not really, but you get what I mean. The best part in the film was seeing how cute Tom Riddle was in his teenage years. Who by the way was a great addition to the movie with his exceptional acting.

If you're going to say that's what Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is all about, then make it so. No substance on the film, I tell ya. Where was the plot exactly? There are two more movies to come, I know that.. and obviously this movie is linked with the next. BUT I'm really hoping that it would be exciting and interesting.

So, between Snape's lack of role, too much humor, not enough battle or darkness, this movie should have been a little bit disappointing to any Harry Potter fan, like ME. Though I know a good amount of people who really liked the film. When I left the theater, I felt like I had not watched Harry Potter. Hopefully the next one will be much better. I STILL RECOMMEND seeing it for yourself. After all it is Harry Potter.

So, I will leave with today's photos. I present to you, me and my friends since college.
