The Philippine Election Day is on Monday, May 10, 2010. I am still undecided for the other candidates running for different positions, but I am 100% sure for the president I am voting for. and that is Dick Gordon. He is a man of vision, and a result-oriented leader.

Obama: Black in White House

I think I will be moving to the US. lol. :D

I am currently living in the Philippines, and I don't get it why I am very excited about Obama being the president of the United States of America. why oh why? lol.

It's the first time in my life I have really get to be interested to a President. And let me tell you, I always hated the president of the Philippines. Maybe that's the only thing in this country that I am not proud of. Watching Obama's achievement and victory and the videos of other countries celebrating... it was very moving. So, my question is.. when will the Philippines achieve this and have a good leader?

I remember watching a movie and reading books about black people. There was one movie that has a sign under the bridge that read, "no nig***rs allowed". there were places that white people went and places that black people went. The black kids sat on one half of the classroom and the white on the other. Racism back then in the USA was so far from dead.

I also have heard stories from black people I have spoke with at work (over the phone, they were my clients), one of them asked me "are you happy about our new president? (by the way, the lady thought I was also in the US, hehehe) she then told me that when she was a kid and when their teacher asked everyone in class what they wanted to be... none of the black kids said they wanted to be president. She said she never thought about it before. she is 64 years old, and never did she thought she would be alive for the first black president.

My cousin's mother-in-law is a teacher in Chicago and a lot of the children there are dominican. She said they were cheering and saying that maybe someday they could grow up to be presidents too. Imagine the hope those children feel. They are always trying to be blonder and say they are more white than the other kids. And finally, they have a reason to feel they might be equal to white people. They think, "If a black man is the most powerful and respected man in the country, maybe I can be respected and grow up to really be somebody too."

So, I think it's such a powerful choice that their country has made.

I hope, the Philippines would have a better president. I want to see it happen. Now if I ever have a kid, maybe they won't ever know that terrible sick feeling of listening to someone degrade another person for their color and race. And respect for the leader of our country? It's like a breath of fresh air. I want this to happen in this country soon.

US President Barack Obama's Victory Speech

I missed watching his speech yesternight because I was in a hurry to go to work. Upon arriving home early this morning, I looked for the full video up on the internet.



His speech almost had my tears welling up. It was really a great and inspiring speech. I wonder why I don't feel the same thing when Pres. Arroyo had her speech. lol. Hmm.. but I don't remember I cared about her speech anyway. Lame. lol.

Rice Shortage in the Philippines

The price of rice is skyrocketing all over the world. This trend will continue until the end of the year, and it is causing panic in many Asian countries, including the Philippines. Why is rice getting more expensive? The rice supply is decreasing. Floods in many Asian countries have affected the rice output in the region.

The Philippines is one of the top importers of rice in the world. Rice is a politically sensitive commodity in this country. It is not surprising that reports of a rice shortage have energized political debate and public concern regarding the economic policies of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

If the global supply of rice is dwindling, what is being done to increase local production? In the first place, why is the Philippines, which is predominantly an agricultural nation, importing rice from other countries?

Rice is the staple food of Filipinos. Remove it from the tables and there will be mass unrest. Blaming the weather and the limited global supply to explain the rice shortage is not enough. The government has to abandon its agricultural liberalization program and its over dependence on rice imports. The government must adopt emergency measures to increase the rice output of farmers. The time has come to implement a genuine agrarian reform.

***I used to be Pro-Gloria. But how can anyone feel safer with Arroyo in the Malacañang Palace when she is directly making the people suffer with such crisis?

How can anyone--ANYONE--imagine that Arroyo is going to bring peace, happiness, and contentment to any corner of this far-reaching and diverse planet? That is, any part that doesn't have massive quantities of rice for plunder.

I hope she chokes on a dried piece of lettuce, that subnormal intelligence cheap cheating lazy greedy dwarf slime wad.

Most of all, I can't believe how little in common I have with the majority of the country. I have never felt less "Filipino".

I HATE TO SEE PEOPLE PAYING FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S IGNORANCE AND BIGOTRY. I HATE BEING AFRAID BECAUSE SOMEONE DIDN'T READ THE NEWSPAPER AND SAW THE PRESIDENT TOUR IN SOME OTHER COUNTRIES OR HER HUSBAND IN SOME WHITE JACKET ON THE HEADLINES.

An Iraqi's Rant

Politics is not my cup of tea.. but I think I'm slowly but surely turning into a political activist or something. i've spent the last hour reading a blog written by an Iraqi woman. She lives by the name Riverbend. And she has a very interesting posts.

One thing she wrote particularly interest me:

"But that's where the difference is: the majority of Iraqis have a deep respect for other cultures and religions… and that's what civilization is. It's not mobile phones, computers, skyscrapers and McDonalds; It's having enough security in your own faith and culture to allow people the sanctity of theirs…"

So... let's try something different for a change. let's try to respect other cultures that happen to be different from our own. So why not respect and honor ancient traditions that have been passed down through generations? When Larry the Cable Guy becomes the epitome of world culture, I will be very frightened indeed.

I'm going to get fired from my job for ranting too much. seriously.
